The National Leadership Council is leading on NHS leadership focusing on clinical, emerging and top leaders, board development and inclusion.

''We are extremely lucky to already have fantastic leaders throughout the NHS. But if we are to realise our vision of an NHS that puts quality at the heart of everything it does, we need to embrace more leaders from all levels in the service and from a wider range of backgrounds"

Exemplar Case Study - Board leadership Delivering QIPP

The NLC Board Development workstream showcases Nottingham University Hospital's (NUH) thought provoking case study, based on their response to the discovery of data anomalies in their Emergency Department.

Continue watching part 2: Reflections and part 3: Response

The case study offers other boards and accountable officers two key reflections, firstly the importance of using organisational values to tackle difficult issues and secondly the need for boards to be assured of the quality of data they receive in order to deploy their governance and strategic accountability roles effectively.  In addition to the 3 part case study "Discovery", "Reflections" and "Response", two further videos specifically highlight the role of the NED and highlight practical ways in which boards can enhance internal Data Quality.

Finally NUH share their Better for You Programme - a Staff Engagement and Patient Experience improvement initiative,  which is helping to address QIPP in their organisation.

Fantastic NHS Leaders: quote of the week

We are extremely lucky to already have fantastic leaders throughout the NHS

This week's inspiring leadership quote comes from Sue Henry, Infant Feeding Coordinator at East Lancs Hospitals NHS Trust / Blackburn with Darwen Primary Care Trust, about Sheena Byrom, Head of Midwifery for East Lancashire Hospitals NHS Trust

"When someone who lacks self-confidence in their ability to lead and inspire meets someone like you it is as if a light goes on inside. It takes strength and courage but most of all it is about respect for your colleagues and an eagerness to empower them to feel more valued in their work. I can't thank you enough for believing in me when I didn't believe in myself. It is clear now to me how you do this and how I can do this with others."
