National Leadership Coundil Clinical Leadership workstream

Clinical Leadership Overview

Effective clinical leadership is critical if we are to achieve an NHS that genuinely has the quality of care at its heart.  Clinicians, more than any other health professional group, are at the forefront of delivering care to patients. They know what patients want and need, and what is possible to achieve. With the economic challenges facing the NHS, it is imperative that frontline clinicians have the leadership skills to drive through radical service reform. The Clinical Leadership Programme will equip clinical leaders with the right resources to develop their leadership talent and help them overcome barriers to realise their potential.

Leadership is for the whole NHS and not just those in management roles. Clinicians with leadership skills are uniquely placed to deliver better services for patients and foster innovation, quality and safety. The Clinical Leadership Programme aims to help clinical leaders succeed more quickly and to be recognised for that success
