NLC Emerging Leaders 'Engaging for Change' Networking Event - Innovation EXPO 2011
The opportunity arose for the NLC Emerging Leaders to host a networking event at the 2011 EXPO event. This approach ensured best value for money and provided delegates with access to both development opportunities. There was a great response from regions with nearly 200 Emerging Leaders attending over the course of the 2 days.
Engaging for Change was designed by Emerging Leaders for Emerging Leaders and a number of high profile speakers were engaged for the delivery of the event which provided:
- Opportunities to strengthen networking and networks, both regionally and nationally.
- The opportunity to consider examples of good practice from all regions shared through a poster presentation
- Tools and techniques to improve their confidence with challenging the status quo and framing and influencing.
- An understanding of how to effectively engage with different generations within the workforce
- Exposure to examples of innovative, and sometimes groundbreaking approaches that have supported transformational change
- An opportunity to engage with to the national mobilisation and QIPP agenda
- An opportunity to explore how Emerging Leaders can support the inclusion agenda within their region
The event opened with a networking opportunity during which Emerging Leaders could view and discuss examples of best practice from across the regions whilst exploring their own leadership challenges and leadership learning with each other.
This was followed by a programme of speakers including Sue James (NLC Emerging Leaders Programme Lead) engaging delegates in subject areas such as Presenting Change Confidently, Framing and Influencing to improve patient, Engaging for Change Inclusively and an innovation exchange workshop ‘Coaching Triads’.
A highlight for many was the ‘Generation Y’ session delivered by Dr Paul Redmond (University of Liverpool) exploring generation theory, the most effective ways to engage with different generations and the concept of ‘career’ according to each generations own unique world outlook.
Delegates were provided with a number of skills and tools to take away and participated in using the Engaging for Change post cards. Post cards were provided for Emerging Leaders to capture the learning they gained from the event and how they were going to apply this learning back in work place. In due course we will post the completed postcards back to Emerging Leaders to refresh their memory of the event, their learning and their commitments to applying the learning.
During the event posters showcasing Emerging Leaders activity in their regions were exhibited. Copies of these posters can be viewed by accessing the regional links below:
