The Inclusion Programme will help to develop NHS leaders who are inclusive and reflective of the communities they serve and the workforce they lead, and which systematically removes barriers to participation in leadership for talented people from all backgrounds, ensuring everyone counts.

“Unless our leadership and workforce are representative of the communities we serve, we will struggle to deliver

locally-driven services that are responsive to the needs of individual patients.

Change will be actively influenced and realised by using appropriate levers and incentives, to ensure that today’s leaders systematically remove barriers and take action to attract and motivate people from minority groups to apply for and take on leadership roles.”

Innovation in Inclusion Webinar

Promoting inclusion is a transformational endeavour, which builds new ways of working and secures shifts in organisational cultures. It seeks to engender respect, honesty and fairness for colleagues and patients alike and demands high levels of interaction and reflection, as well as a deep commitment to act. It has entailed difficult and uncomfortable conversations. Leaders, staff and patients required the nerve to question the most embedded of practices.
